A pair of ocean blue eyes shifted towards the night sky, as, finally, the moon had dominated.
"Is it time, Baron?" The male sitting beside him eagerly questioned when seeing his leader stand, immediately his heart leaping with excitement. If he'd had a tail, it would've been wagging.
"Yes. Round up the others, Alexander," Baron ordered, fastening his dual daggers to his waist, one on each side. He wore light leather armor to allow his speed advantage to be put to use. His black hair had been cut short though wasn't the neatest, while his skin was pale in comparison to most. Naturally he was a bit taller than the average height, standing at six feet tall with a sturdy build that was on the thinner, more agile side. Alexander was nearly as tall, but much thinner. While he was nearly as old as Baron, too, he acted most like a child, even in battle with his taunts. Most underestimated him due to his fragile appearance, but Baron knew well that Alexander was a force to be reckoned with when his wolf-like reflexes kicked in.
Before Alexander walked past, Baron teasingly ruffled through the male's brown hair, causing a glare to be sent back over his shoulder, but only a brief one. Once everyone in the group was gathered, roughly about seven or so strong, they made their way through the night silently, on foot. Once they pillaged the camp, more members of the raid would arrive on horseback to help haul their goods back. That being said.. There was expected to be no survivors.
When they grew close enough to see the edges of the camp, they made sure to conceal themselves well, as the art of surprise was one that Baron emphasized. He was never surprised at how well he could see in the dark, at least, not since the changes had started.

The inhabitants of this particular camp had either gone to sleep within the drape-built tents, or remained by the fires for both warmth and to keep watch. Mabel, a former human whom had all of a sudden developed mutant-like attributes a couple of months before, sat down next to one smoldering fire. She was still getting used to the changes, as it was such a huge thing to adapt to. There were a few others like her, in the sense that they had all noticed changes in their bodies around the same time. No one was completely sure what had triggered it, but there were assumptions. It seemed as though the people who did change, gained their characteristics from certain animals. Some were still unsure as to what they were, but Mabel was confident enough that her new found abilities matched those of a snake of some sort.
That was why the cold made her drowsy, and at night she lacked the same energy as a normal person. For that reason, she usually kept near the fires, and slept by them too. It kept her blood warmed up enough so that it wouldn't be impossible to defend herself if anything did attack.
Drawing her out of her thoughts was the familiar tingling sensation that she felt in the bridge of her nose when there was a notable source of heat in the surrounding area. It definitely wasn't the people close to her, as this seemed rather distant. Both curious, and wary, the fair-haired female stood. Eyes with slitted irises flickered over her surroundings, narrowing slightly in an attempt to pinpoint what exactly was emitting this heat.

With a signal from Baron, Alex grinned, leaning back his head to let out an eerily realistic howl to serve as a battle call. Almost instantly, the raiding group became apparent as they raced from their hiding spots. Other members joined in with short howls of their own to further taunt and scare those they were ambushing. Chaos was soon entitled as various tents were set afire, and amidst it all Baron walked calmly from where he'd stood towards the center of the camp. The raiders showed no hesitance to kill those that they found in tents and otherwise, most enjoying the adrenaline rush that came with it. Alex knew better than to kill anyone with potential, however, or at least any that Baron may take liking- As did the others, save they find anyone who may peak their leader's interest.

The attack had begun so quickly that it was nearly impossible for Mabel to warn anyone. The battle cries had woken everybody, but not everyone was quick enough to get out of their tents in time to defend themselves against the enemy.
The tents being set a flame caused immediate chaos, but it also began to work as a heat source to warm the female serpent's blood further. Nimble reflexes and movements allowed her to dart from one place to the next quickly enough, and she had assumed she would be able to escape the attack, until one of the enemy had launched himself in her direction with a snarl.
Momentarily taken by surprise, the female was met with claws to the abdomen, which left gashes of a rather large diameter. This didn't stop her from retaliating, however, and she shot forward again, canines elongating and taking a more narrow, sharper shape. They sank into the flesh of the enemy's shoulder in one smooth movement, and released a venom involuntarily which was quick to attack the nervous system. Mabel remained latched to the body until it had fallen completely limp. Now, as she pulled away again, she hoped to find an escape route and slip away.

There was a different scent that caught his attention as he began his stride into the camp, one that he had never noticed before. Soon Baron's watchful eyes located and spotted that which the scent came from- A female. Her eyes immediately caught his attention due to the shape of her irises, and Baron's head tilted a small amount to the side, much like that of a predator watching a fleeing prey. Alex noted the curiosity that Baron held from his position, and a grin immediately spread to his lips, before he ducked into another tent.
Baron silently moved to block the female's exit route, noting the way she'd been fleeing, until he stood before her. "Wait." His voice was stern and direct, no room for objection in his tone. "Fight me. If I lose, you can freely escape. If I win, you are mine."
When Alex ducked into one of the last remaining tents, he was caught off guard to see a curled up figure in the corner, pure white wings curled around them. Quickly continuing his action, Alex reached through the opening of the wings wings and grabbed an arm, yanking to pull them up. "You scar-" He began, but halted once more. Tears rolled down a young girl's face, and her age couldn't have been over five or six. What caught his attention past her age, however, was a small vine that was curled around her wrist, something he'd never seen before. After strongly debating what to do with the girl, he finally picked her up and held her against his hip, rubbing her back in an almost alien change of aggression, leaving the tent to find Baron.

I'm not going to be able to leave at all, am I? thought Mabel, the voice in her head more than simply frustrated. Turning around to face the source of the masculine voice, her eyes briefly flickered over him as she inhaled sightly through her nose. Yeah, definitely not completely human. It wouldn't be too easy for her to tell what kind of a mutant he was, until he displayed some of his abilities. And even then it may be difficult enough.
"I suppose I don't have much of a choice in the matter," she remarked. Her current poise showed that she was ready to lunge. Clearly, the female was planning on winning. Whether or not things would end up in her favour - time would only tell.

There was a certain air around Baron, one that could be mistaken for bravery or courage, but happened to be something entirely different. His hands remained at his sides but failed to move for his weapon, simply watching her with a light of amusement in his eyes, though he knew better than to throw them to the side. He'd never underestimated an opponent before, and he wasn't willing to start now. "No, you don't." The words were his only response as he waited patiently for her to make a first move.

Mabel figured that he was waiting for her to attack first, which wasn't something she liked doing during head on combat. Especially sine she was going up against a mutant. This could end up backfiring if he did something entirely unpredictable. Falling into a momentary crouch, the fair-haired female lunged. The wounds to her abdomen stung quite a lot in doing so, but it was something she'd need to endure if she was to beat this male. The small yet silvery cluster of scales on one of her cheekbones glinted under the light of the moon, while her teeth elongated again.

His expression remained blank as the female made her move, lunging towards him. He waited what seemed to be a dangerously long time, nearly allowing her to reach him, before swiftly side-stepping and letting her pass, in the process just slightly sticking out a foot to trip her.

Mabel was surprised when she met blank space, and skidded to a stop only to have her shin collide with his foot. This is exactly why I hate combat - I'm far better at sneaking, complained the female mentally. It was a wonder she felt she had time to be annoyed.
Colliding with the ground after tripping, she was quick to get to her feet again and eyed her opponent cautiously. He had yet to display any of his abilities, which only made this far more difficult for her. "Fight me properly, or don't at all."

"Properly?" A grin tugged at the corner of his lips. "And what would you consider to be proper?" Baron began slowly circling around the female, with his hands casually clasped loosely behind his back, as if it were a leisure occasion. When doing so, perhaps bravely allowing her at least a side glimpse of his back, black feathers could be seen on tightly folded wings against his back.

"If I'm going to end up losing, I'd like to at least know what abilities my opponent had," responded the serpent-hybrid, before making a quick interjection. "Not that I will be, of course."
Her golden-hued eyes then spotted the silhouette of what looked to be feathers. Were those wings? That reminded her a lot of that kid they had brought with them for whatever reason. She also had wings, Mabel recalled. The female hoped these people weren't so bloodthirsty as to murder a child.

"Abilities, you say?" Baron purposely used a tone that would act as though he had no idea what she might be speaking of. Of course, he did, but his intent wasn't to kill her, therefore he had no real reason to waste his energy. However.. It'd been a while since he'd had any fun. "Show me yours first, and I might just show mine." His voice was taunting the second time around, a grin across his lips as he stopped his circling, facing the female once more.

Mabel exhaled a slight grumble of irritation in response to his infuriating teasing.
The tip of her tongue ran along her unsheathed fangs, drawing forth two droplets of venom. She of course, was immune to her own poison. The female didn't know that it wasn't in his best interests to kill her, so she didn't waste too much time in springing forward again, aiming to sink into whichever area of flesh met with her first.

The more Baron was able to watch the female, the closer he believed he grew to figuring out what mutation she might be. He had already spotted the patches of scales on her skin, as well as the unsheathed fangs she honed. He didn't have a doubt that she was able to eject venom as well, therefore wasn't willing to chance his nervous system to it, at least not yet.
When she lunged at him again, he dodged with amazing speed, but wouldn't let her pass so easily. Before she would move past him, he slammed his elbow into her stomach with more than enough force to send her sliding back.
